Julie Schneider is the Program Director for Ombudsman Services of San Mateo County. She is a clinical social worker and earned her MSW from Smith College School for Social Work. Her connection to long-term care began in the 1990s, when she worked as an activity assistant in a skilled nursing facility.

Years later, Julie found her way back to long-term care as a volunteer with the San Francisco Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program. What began as a volunteer role became a career: after three years, she joined the staff as Volunteer Coordinator in 2012. Following more than a decade with the San Francisco program, she joined Ombudsman Services of San Mateo County in January 2025.

Julie especially enjoys helping residents and families work through difficult situations and mentoring volunteers as they develop their own skills as advocates. She likes the part of Ombudsman work that requires persistence, creative problem-solving, and bringing the right people together. She also enjoys training, building community partnerships, and finding practical ways to strengthen the Ombudsman program and make its work more effective
