Membership in CLTCOA offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Online LTC Ombudsman specific trainings to fulfill CEU requirements (18 hours annually)
  • Free and low-cost educational events and forums for learning best practices for Ombudsmen
  • Access to technical expertise and support needed to tackle issues encountered by local programs
  • Opportunities to have a voice in systemic advocacy efforts, both statewide and on a federal level
  • Monthly newsletters with information of interest to LTC Ombudsman programs

 Legislative & Regulatory Advocacy

  • CLTCOA reviews thousands of bills each year to identify those to watch, support, and oppose
  • CLTCOA participates in legislative hearings and submits letters of support and opposition to bills CLTCOA identifies
  • CLTCOA provides LTC Ombudsman programs with training and support with meetings with legislators and regulators
  • CLTCOA analyzes and comments on proposed regulations and statewide policies from CDSS, CDPH, CDA, DHCS, and more
  • CLTCOA drafts, submits, and advocates for funding requests and policy changes on behalf of local LTC Ombudsman programs

Other Systemic Advocacy

CLTCOA represented the interests of local LTC Ombudsman programs and LTC residents through the following:

  • Statewide Community Vaccine Advisory Committee
  • CDA Re-entry Into Facilities Taskforce
  • CDA Long-Term Care Facility Access Policy Workgroup
  • California Association of Long-Term Medicine
  • California Aging and Disability Alliance
  • California Elder Justice Coalition
  • California Elder & Disability Justice Coordinating Council
  • California Collaborative for Long-Term Services & Supports
  • California Master Plan on Aging (MPA) stakeholder meetings
  • Monthly and quarterly CDPH & CDSS/CCL stakeholder meetings
  • DHCS AB-186 Skilled Nursing Facility Financing Reform stakeholder meetings
  • The return on investment on the small membership fee that we pay is immense.  Just from the last two years of one-time additional money we received through CLTCOA’s advocacy pays for the next 45 years of membership, and the organization does  more than advocating for funding.  It’s really worth it.

  • You are are simply "AMAZING"! My volunteers and staff can't stop talking about your visit. They loved your putting so much into perspective and explaining so much about the program and CLTCOA. I think they are feeling more fierce now. Thank you.
